Can God Exist Without a Creator? Why Is the Universe Here?

One of the hardest questions we humans have ever faced is the nature of the origin of life, matter, time, space, and the universe. How are we here? Where did we come from? Why did anything start? What created God? Why does God exist and how? Will this ever end?

So many hard questions, and yet we will never know the full answers on this side of eternity (that is, unless God chose to reveal it).

I recently seen a question regarding this same topic. The question is below:

Can God exist without an origin?.. & Can the Big Bang or the event that created it exist without a precursor?

We know for a fact that we along with the Earth and the Planets and the Stars and everything within the Universe exists..
But what created it all or started its birth.. There must have been something existing in the very beginning, i truly believe that if there was nothing in the very beginning then there would still be nothing now for an eternity..

Its a fact that something cannot materialise from nothing no matter how big or small, so if there was something here in the beginning no matter how big or small then that’s what created and gave birth to it all and if that something was here in the beginning without any outside help then that’s our God no matter what it is.. The Bible just simplifies its story.. what do you think?..

Here is My reply:

Yes, I completely understand your thinking, and this particular question sometimes drives me crazy. What was here before the universe? Where did it come from? How did anything exist? Why does it exist? Will it ever end? Ouch…I am starting to get a headache already!

I have pondered these questions so often, and I can never seem to find an answer to all of them. Here is as far as I can get with it:

The universe (by most scientific belief) had a beginning. At this beginning point, that is where time began. Since the universe had a beginning, it didn’t always exist in its current form, and thus, had to have a cause or creator. So the question, “What created the universe” is a logical question, since indeed it had a beginning.

According to the Bible, God has always been. He has no creation and has no end. He is not contained within our universe. Since he was not created, he has no creator or first cause. So the question, “What created God” is an illogical question. The answer is nothing. He wasn’t created.

So in short: universe didn’t always exist, and had a beginning, therefore has a cause/creator. God always existed, and did not have a beginning, therefore does not have a first cause/creator. God just is.

Now, how is God existing? Why? How? Those are tough questions, and I have no clue at all, nor do I suspect anyone will every have the answer ever on this Earth (at least unless God reveals after it is over). Perhaps there has always been a magnificent force of conscious energy in the space/time continuum, and this force is God. God has the ability to use his energy and intelligence to create universes, and even us. He has the ability to create the laws of nature and bend them at His will, etc.

This is complex stuff, and it boggles my mind sometimes. But I completely agree with most of your reasoning. What IT was that was here before the universe (time) began, why not simply call IT God? Why not assume it can have intelligence and even create stuff?

Also, another point I want to make. People that are opposed to religion often claim it is unlikely that an intelligent source exists from nothing, or that it could create anything like the universe or us. Yet, at the same time will go on to say how we (intelligent beings), came from nothing. So if we can have intelligence and do things and even create ourselves, why couldn’t a God before time began do the same? Oh how I wish I knew all the answers…..

Anyways, I place my faith in God, the bible (in my opinion) is the best guide for living in a way that agrees with the goodness of God and nature of his creation.

Does Stephen Hawking Believe in God?

I just recently finished reading a bestselling book: A Briefer History of Time by Stephen Hawking. It was a very good book on concepts such as the beginning of time (as viewed by most scientists today), and many other scientific concepts (such as Einstein’s theory of Relativity).

Throughout the book, Hawking mentions “God” quite a bit. As a matter of fact, he ends the main part of the “conclusion” with the following paragraph:

If we do discover a complete theory, it should in time be understandable in broad prinicple by everyone, not just a few scientists. Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists, and just ordinary people, be able to take part in the discussion of the question of why it is that we and the universe exist. If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason–for then we would know the mind of God.

Steven Hawking is one of our greatest scientific minds, and one of the most well known scientists around today. He is confined to a wheelchair due to a debilitating desease, yet that has not stopped him from becoming one of the leading scientists today.

Does Steven Hawking Believe in God?

Steven Hawking does not ever come out in his book (A Brief History of Time) that he does or does not believe in God. He makes several references to God throughout the book, but does not ever indicate a belief.

In my own view, based on reading the book, I get the impression that he does believe in the possibility of a creator (God), but not in the sense of traditional religion. I would think he maybe sees God as a first cause or creator, but not a “hands on” type of God that most religions seem to depict.  But again, this is merely speculation on my part, as he never indicates belief in one way or the other. But I do also get the distinct impression that he has often pondered the existence of God throughout his life.

I wish I could have a personal conversation with Mr. Hawking regarding his personal views and beliefs. It would definitely be interesting to talk with someone of such understanding of theories and mathematics. I wonder what he does believe? But probably only Stephen knows for sure what he truly believes. Either way, he is a great scientist, a great writer, and has made tremendous accomplishments in his life despite his terrible battle with ALS.
