One interesting question about Jesus is his genetic makeup. The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus was born of a virgin mother (Mary). She did not have sexual relations with anyone previously. This means that Jesus did not have any DNA from a human male.

Of course, the Bible does not give details about how the virgin birth occurred biologically speaking. Nor does it go on into detail about it. So this article is just speculation based on a few potential ways it COULD have happened. Here are 3 basic ways it could have happened:

• Jesus received all of Mary’s Genetics
• Jesus received half of Mary’s Genetics and Half of a Special Set from God (miraculously of course)
• Jesus received all of his DNA uniquely from God, and Mary simply carried him until birth.

The First Method-Jesus could have had all of Mary’s DNA. There is a natural process that occurs in many species of amphibians and fish called parthenogenesis. Parthenogenesis is the process of reproduction without contribution of sperm from a male organism.

The process works like this: In normal reproduction, a female released an egg, and sperm from a male fertilizes the egg and produces offspring. However, in parthenogenesis, a female egg is released, and part of the female egg fertilizes it and gives a complete genetic DNA code. Thus, a baby can be born with no actual father.

This phenomenon has been observed multiple times in non-mammals. However, who can say that at least 1 time in history it couldn’t have happened? Perhaps this is how the virgin birth occurred??

The Second Method-God could have supernaturally implanted half of the genetic information into Mary, and used her other half to make Jesus. Thus, it would have produced a normal male, but he would have unique genetic information. He would have a “Heavenly” father.

The Third Method- God could have supernaturally implanted a full genetic code inside of Mary’s womb. This means she would have only been a “surrogate” mother to Jesus.

All of the above could explain how Jesus was born of a virgin mother. The Bible doesn’t tell us how (biologically) it occurred. However, it does say that this was God’s plan. God revealed to Mary that she would be found with child.

Many people used to be skeptical about the virgin birth. However, science now shows us that this does happen in nature. Even though they don’t think it can happen in mammals due to certain genes that may “switch off” during parthenogenesis, it is always possible that it could have happened about 2000 to a woman named Mary. After all, we can’t assume that in all of human history, at least 1 person could have experienced this phenomenon.

One fact does remain, Jesus was unique! His DNA was unique either way you slice it. It would be interesting to know.

The bible is full of “miracles.” One of the miracles that people often question, and even doubt, is the virgin birth event. People say, “There is no way Mary had a virgin birth.” They usually suspect that Mary and Joseph had premarital sex, and tried to hide it until they were married to prevent persecution or punishment.

So when the hear the story of a Virgin born Jesus, they often think…Yeah Right! Atheists also like to be skekptical about this and point out that all humans must have a mother and a father. But is that really the truth? Was Jesus Really Born of a Virgin?

Was Jesus Really Born of a Virgin? Is it Scientifically Possible?

Yes and Yes! I personally believe that Jesus Christ was absolutely born of a virgin, and in fact, the only one that ever was in the history of the world! Some of you may be saying, “yeah right, how could this happen.” But the truth is, this is KNOWN to happen in science. CNN recently reported on a shark that was born of a virgin shark mother. They did DNA testing, and it proved it had absolutely NO male DNA donated to it!WOW-isn’t that quite amazing. This is how it happened:

“The scientists who studied the Virginia and Nebraska sharks said the newly formed pups acquired one set of chromosomes when the mother’s chromosomes split during egg development, then united anew.”

That is pretty interesting isn’t it! A set of chromosones slip during egg development and united again. This produced a shark–with no male donation of genetic material. The article also stated that:

“Virgin birth has been proven in some bony fish, amphibians, reptiles and birds, and has been suspected among sharks in the wild.”

So virgin births, while rare, do happen! It is a scientific fact. And while I completely have total tolerance, love, and respect for people of all faiths (or no faith at all), you must admit that it is at least possible, that at one point in the entire human history, one person COULD have been born of a virgin. I believe this did happen, I believe the bible predicts this from Genesis (where God says He will put emnity between satan’s seed and the woman’s seed). I believe the person’s name was Jesus.

If someone was born of a virgin, that would make them very unique wouldn’t it. Especially if they claimed some of the things that Jesus and the apostles claimed. Very interesting!
